Step by Step Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to working on development issues at the grassroots level in Haiti. Step by Step Foundation is dedicated to creating a unique and different approach to help children, men and women rise above grinding poverty. Step by Step Foundation works with the less advantaged, assisting them in the process of social, economic and educational changes to better their lives. The mission of Step by Step Foundation is to empower the poor. We believe that sustainable education, creating work and show them that lives can be a better place will become a reality only if the poor fully participate in their society. Step by Step Foundation will work with the communities of Dame Marie, Lahai, Rousselin, Dessormeaux, Balizerne, Glacy-Gallier and Carcasse to rebuild 2 school buildings that were damaged or destroyed and to build 6 more at the suburban areas where kids need to walk 3 hours to go to school.

Sponsoring a child is a great way to provide essential help to some of Haiti's vulnerable children.

THE COST OF SPONSORING A CHILD IS $120 PER YEAR


Sponsored Child Program Benefits:

1. Education
Education is the best way to break the horrible cycle of poverty that exists in Haiti. With your sponsorship, a child will attend school for one year. Over half of our children have never had the opportunity to attend school.

2. Nutritious meal each day
Each school day our elementary students receive a hot meal. This is often the only meal these children will have each day.

3. School books
Our students receive their own textbooks. In a country where 80 percent of the population is illiterate, these books are treasured by our students.

4. School uniform
Children in Haiti are not allowed to attend school without a uniform. The ability to pay for their child’s uniform is often only a dream to a family that must exist on less than $20.00 a month. Our students are provided with a school uniform each year. These uniforms assure that our students will be able to come to school and be well dressed.

5. Photo Identification Card
Each student has a photo identification card that is used when receiving gifts and correspondence from his or her sponsor. This card assures that each child maintains an active role with Step by Step Program. For the most students, this is the only photo of themselves that they have.

6. Letters to your child
You may write to your child. Corresponding with your child by sending letters, cards, and photos of you and your family enables a special bond between of friendship to develop between you and your child. As there is no mail delivery in the village, Step by Step Foundation, Inc. will forward your letters from our office to our representative in Haiti, or if you prefer, you can contact our representative in Haiti directly.

7. Personal visits with your child in Haiti
You are encouraged to come to Haiti to visit and have the opportunity to meet your sponsored child. Meeting and talking with your child is an exciting time and creates a lasting memory for both you and your child.

Short term mission trips are being organized throughout the year, and we would love to accomodate your group. Our goal is to connect mission teams with areas of need that their skills can address on a schedule that works well for everyone involved.
